ANTI-STRESS SEMINARS FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Within the project ''Peer and gender-based violence'' TPO Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry for education, science and youth of the Canton Sarajevo organized the first three-day seminar for teachers and pedagogues from ten primary schools. The goal of the seminar was to empower teachers to understand the power of stress and to master stress management techniques. Many have great expectations from teachers and pedagogues and they have a responsibility to prevent peer and other forms of violence in their schools and also to properly address the consequences of violence. Parents, students and school management require teachers to rise to the occasion, but at the same time nobody takes care of teachers and their psychosocial needs. Teachers and pedagogues are also parents and they face hardships in their lives in terms of material needs and health problems like any other citizen, and above all they take on the challenging duty of educating and bringing up of children. They are expected to be role models for their students and have an impact on their personal development, but they can only do it if they are healthy and have psychosocial support and understanding. For the teachers to be able to properly address the requirements of teaching and take care of their students they need to have additional psychosocial support. Amra Delic, who works at the Clinic of psychiatry and psycho- therapy at the Medical School Greifswald in Germany and she is also a research fellow of EU Marie Sklodowska Curie Action "Children born of war".

Dr. Amra is psychiatrist with long-term experience in clinical psychiatry in the field of psychotrauma, social trauma, mental health prevention and violence against women ran the seminar.
